NIEUW25 at Kunstuitleen Utrecht
5-19 April, opening Friday 4 april, 17.30 (walk in from 17.00)
Opening hours: Wednesday – Saturday 11-17 uur/11am - 5pm
Participating artists: Denier van der Gon, Rob Hornstra, Bob Negryn, Satijn Panyigay
Discover the versatility of photography at the NIEUW25 exhibition, with new work by four photographers. They each capture the world around them with their own technique and gaze, telling a unique story.
The work of documentary photographer Rob Hornstra shows you how special the ordinary is, how grand the everyday can be. His work raises questions about the society in which we live.
Although Satijn Panyigay photographs empty spaces and anonymous buildings, her work is all about the emotions that come with being human.
Aleid Denier van der Gon works with the camera obscura, an age-old technique. With this, she lets go of control and embraces the imperfections that result from this technique, in contrast to today's visual language.
In his still lifes, Bob Negryn shows the contrast between the transience of nature and man-made plastic utensils.
Together, these four photographers show how versatile photography can be – from subtle and poetic to penetrating and intriguing.
New Dutch Horizons at Schiphol Airport
In commission for Schiphol and WINK I recently made the work ‘Night Eye’ (2024) for New Dutch Horizons, a 200 meter long illuminated art installation at Schiphol Airport, Lounge 1. Nineteen Netherlands based artists have reflected on the theme and made a work especially for this installation, which also features an audiotour about the works and artists.
For ‘Night Eye’ I captured the Eye Filmmuseum (Amsterdam) at night with a large format analog camera, with the full moon, and a few minutes of exposure time. All details are visible up close in the 2.4 x 5 meter long print (number 13).
The exhibition is on show until June 2025, but the works of Saša Ostoja and myself will be removed in March, due to the opening of a store. The intention is to relocate the works at Schiphol after the exhibition closes, and the works will remain part of the art collection.
